Being a relative beginner, and having seen the knowledgeable threads in here, I apologise for what may be viewed as an immature, mundane question.

I was advised to start out with Nicaraguense, Firemouths and Rainbow Cichlid as apparently they are hardy fish that can withstand beginner's accidental oversights or mistreatments. I have subsequently added Bala Sharks, Clown Loaches and White Spotted Talking Catfish but have been informed that because of my initial selection, I am limited now to what I can add because of compatability issues. I love these fish but wish to inject a bit of colour differentiation into my tank (1,2m / 200 litres) and wonder what the members could advise.

I would also mention that I love Red Tailed Sharks but have received conflicting advice about them. Some feel that they are not compatabile with Bala Sharks as they become aggressive while others have stated that they have kept them together with no incident. What is the general feeling among members?

first things first welcome to the forums however im afraid you have some problems clown loaches may be ok in your tank but they can get quite big but are slow growers so you have plenty of time if you wish to remove them. Also with the catfish you have you cannot keep anything under 4cm due to risk of being eaten. Bala sharks you will have to remove im afraid they need a lot of room and a 6ft tank is a minimum really :/ also the Nicaruga cichlid is fine. but they can be a bit terrotorial. the firemouths should also be ok but can also be terrotorial. the rainbows are fine. Also generally your fish would prefer some rock work and plants. Also what are your water parimeters?

Also red tailed black sharks can be agressive towards there own kind so you can have one :)
