Hi guys,

I'm just starting up a 55gal FW tank after being in SW for about 2 years.

Can anyone recommend a good place to go in West Yorkshire that have a wide selection of FW fish in good condition?

And, are there any decent FW mail-order places in the UK that will ship livestock?

Cheers!

Mark

the only online place that I know of is trimar.co.uk website isn't the greatest but the stocking list is huge!

where abouts in west yorkshire are you? as there are quite a few places that you can visit

I'm actually in Batley - small world :p

Animal house has just shut down hasn't it? I've also been to UK Marines on Bradford Road in Batley, but they don't have much interesting stock and are never very helpful, also the tanks aren't in too good a condition and lots of dead fish around!

Also been to a place in Brighouse which has good stock in good condition, along with Tong Garden centre...

I was hoping there'd be a tropical fish superstore or something somewhere around Leeds though?

tis a small world yes animal house has shut down what type of tropical fish are you after ? if its your bread & butter type then you could try interfish at osset very knowlagable & helpfull in my oppinion or you could try tingley tropicals cant think of a superstore in leeds area if there is then i dont know it could be wrong :dunno: there is also a place worth visiting near huddersfield towns ground but i cant remember what its called at the mo :S

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Interfish in Ossett has quite a good selection, the best place i have found so far is Rainbow aquatics in Mexborough (south yorkshire) but its worth the trip. I also call at Viscum in Barnburgh on the way but it is over priced.

Thanks for your help guys!

Emma: Is rainbow a big place? Prices good for FW fish and a good selection in good quality?

:D

I think Interfish is the best near me. I live in morley so i'm sort of next to you lol. The one in huddersfield is intercontinental goldfish but i haven't got round to going there may go tomorrow after college because thats in huddersfield. In leeds theres Living World aswell near Armley.

Q.S.S. on Wakefield Road Bradford. Is first class.
I now live back home in Northern Ireland but I was resident in Bradford from the late seventies to the early ninties. (my wife is a Bradfordian) I made a visit to Q.S.S. every friday after work. The staff are proper aquarists with lots of knowledge. It is now owned by Andrew Shepard who is very very knowledgeable with Koi which also feature heavily out the back of the premisis. But take a trip yourself you wont be dissapointed. I promise (whilst on holiday back to Bradford this year I revisited the shop and it has improved even more from the early days)

Cheers for all your help guys, it seems there's more places than I thought :p

Is Interfish a big place?

Hi,

Interfish is one room they have quite a few tanks but didn't have many unusual fish when i went, i only went once as it involves motorways and i am good at getting lost. They had a good selection of corals and marine inverts. They had harlequin rasboras listed as harlequin tetras, i got some wood shrimp and staghorn nerites from there but haven't bought fish.

The place in Huddersfield is Transcontinental goldfish, it has a lot of tanks and occasionally a few unusual plecs but i haven't been this year. They also sell reptiles and furries a warning about the rats, they had males and females in together so don't get any females from there unless you like baby rats. I pointed this out to them as it is easy to sex rats but they didn't seperate them.

Rainbow aquatics looks small from the front but is big inside, they have 2 rooms with general tropicals and goldfish, a cichlid room and a marine room. I only recently found this place as it was suggested by another forum member but i have only been 3 times and come away with new fish every time. They even had pygmy rasboras which i have been looking for for over a year and some cordoras hastatus which i hadn't seen for sale before. Its a pain for parking though but is across the road from a pub so i parked in the pub carpark.

Viscum often has unusual plecs but is generally twice the price of rainbow aquatics.
