Fish Breeding / Quarantine Tanks

They're normally very small; too small to be of any real use. Yes, you could put eggs in them to hatch out, but you'd still need a proper tank (I never use anything less than 10g) for growing the fry on anyway.

I use mine when my platys are actually birthing, just to catch the fry. When the process is done, I use a 10gallon tank for actually raising of the babies. My fry never spent more than 12 hours in it because they are so small. I didn't even keep mom in it for more than 3 hours, and I didn't like putting her in there but she was being harassed while birthing her fry. I think they are useful for very temporary use, as in a few hours.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I would also suggest that if you are going to temporarily use something for the fry, use a net breeded as they allow a little more circulation (although not much)
