Hi all,

My 3+- year old Paradise fish has recently become very bloated in the abdomen. The scales are not protruding, and he is still relatively active. His eyes seem a little large, though that could be my imagination. Upon noticing the bloat, I took him out of my community tank and put him in a smaller container with some Jungle Fungus Eliminator.

I remembered that feeding a green pea to my bettas seemed to help with certain abdominal problems, so I tried that, but he won't eat.

The tank he is in is not filtered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Your fish could have Dropsy... If your fish has a bloated anus/stomach and eyes which are slightly bulging, then it is most probably the "uncerated" form of dropsy...

You should keep the diseased fish away from its healthy tank mates... as it is infectious... As I understand, there is no cure... ( if it is Dropsy, then the fish shall have almost no hope of survival... ) Sorry...

If you have just noticed the fish's symptoms, then the other tank occupants should be safe from the disease...

According to BAENSCH Aquarium Atlas diseases, antibiotics ( Chloramphenicol, Streptomycin and Leucomycin in the food ) can be used... but I'm afraid apart from that, there is little hope...

Sorry... if the worst comes to the worst...

 :rip:

Thank you,

I just did the Epsom salt bath, for twenty minutes. The Fish Junkie website did not say whether to repeat the treatment or not. Does anyone know? Also, how long before I'll know if it worked?

The fish seems to be putting up a good fight, and still responds when I wag my finger near the tank. I removed him 5 days ago, when I first noticed the swelling, and so far none of the other fish seem sick... still the community tank is in for a good cleaning tonight.

Thanks for the help

Need to keep drawing the fluid out so I would say three times aday.
Don't feed the fish for a few days.

Is the epsom bath supposed to work quickly, or does it take time to see results? I did it 3 times over the course of several hours, gradually increasing length of time spent in the salt water solution. Didn't dare go much beyond 30 minutes, though I was tempted.

Yes it will take a while to see results.
Though this is the last course of treatment really, if the organs have shut down not much to be done, sorry.
