Yay!!!!

I was just sat watching my fish - as I do - and I saw a teeny tiny baby hovering around my shell ornament-type thing......I think he was swimming away from my Moon platy who swam through the ornament!

I've only seen one - but I guess there are likely to be more - unless I sucked them up with my poor attempt at gravel cleaning earlier (oops)!

I'm not expecting teeny-fish to last long without being eaten, but I'm just wondering.... what sort of % of fry are likely to make it to aduldhood without human intervention and prevention from being mummy's lunch?

Happy fish-loving!!!

My Platies are always getting jiggy :)

Had 3 new fry today and had a few a month ago. From the fry a month ago there are two sole survivors (not sure how many she had last time) who are happily growing up.

Now i just need to cater for the 3 new ones. I dont take any speical precutions to save them so to speak. The tank is heavily planted but i late nature take its course. A bit like survival of the fittiest.

If you have a densly planted tank im sure most will stay alive as they will have alot of hiding places and cover.

Good Luck!!

You know whats a good hide spot for fry, is decorative rocks or eggets in piles or however you place them so that there is spaces large enough for them to fit but not the adults.. I seem to have most fry live that way.
Sadly you might of sucked up some of the babies, or sqashed them with the gravel if you were moving it around during cleaning. Plants help but should be alittle dense as sparsley arranged doesnt help much IMO.. good luck with your remaining fry

My Platy has had fry three times No special measures taken here either, although there are plenty of hiding places. I usually see them for a day or two, and then they are gone. I suppose that is just as well. I'm not sure I could handle a whole bunch more fish yet, until I upgrade. Still, a couple might be nice. :hey: Just to say I've been there, done that.

I did make a rock cave a few days ago, and made sure that there were spaces between the rocks that fry could hide in. Perhaps that might save a few.

Well..... I only ever saw one - once. I reckon daddy might have eaten it as I saw him nosing around in that area the next morning. Oh well - natural selection and all that, I guess I'll hope for some more!

My Platy fry are much smaller than my Molly fry, so I can barely find the Platy fry most of the time unless I spend a couple hours at the fry tank looking for any kind of motion. You might have more than you think still around somewhere.
