I went to a fish auction today, and met Tolak there, along with some of his freinds from Chicago. I bought 4 angels from him, and i also purchase 2 ( breeding pair). I also purchased Almond leaves, and soem Fresh Pelleted Cichlid Growth Formula food. I have a video of the angels spawning ( after 5 hours of introduction!). Here the angels go first:

This is by far, the best decision i have ever made as fishkeeping goes!

NICEEE! Sweet looking Angels m8 and Tolak hooked you up with some very usefull stuff. What is Acriflavin? Im actually looking for a supply of Metro at the moment, which is not available over the counter in the UK- If any UK person has a supply or knows a reliable method(without the need for a vet) of getting it plz let me know. Anyways nice fish kribensis12 and best of luck keeping/breeding them.

Thanks. I think that most Hole-in-the-Head Med's have Metro in them. Acriflavin i belive is a anti-fungus or bacterial ( can remeber for sure).

It appears that the angels in pic's 7 and 8 have paired off. Number eight looks full of eggs, and has her tube showing, and number 7 is skinny and you can kinda see his tube.

Most of the eggs have gone bad and fallen off. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

A few thoughts on why this may be occurring;

Eggs that don't stick are sometimes attributed to a diet too low in protein. Those eggs were formed before you owned the fish, so you have no idea of their diet before you got them.

They are also spawning on a surface that is vertical, and rather slick compared to many other surfaces. Gravity is working against you. I have noticed that if I let the usual spawning sites of pvc, slate, or silk plants sit in the tank for more than a week without a rinse or wipe the eggs don't adhere as well. I attribute this to a layer of bio film, which in itself is rather slick.

Angels come from waters that are low in pH, and soft. If you recall from the many cycling posts here, nitrifying bacteria grow slower in water with a lower pH. All bacteria do. Your water, having a higher pH, is less likely to inhibit bacterial growth. I deal with the same thing, though your pH is even higher than mine.

This is the reason for hatching in a separate clean container, with the various anti-bacterials and anti-fungals. Bacteria kills the eggs, this you don't see. The fungus is most often secondary, this is what aquarists see, and what they treat for. You can treat eggs the first few days with a level of medication that would be near or past the lethal dosage for swimming fish, the trick is to remove it via water changes as the eggs hatch.

Hardness is more often a problem with fish that do require softer water for a viable spawn. The hardness will actually harden the surface of the egg through osmosis, making penetration of sperm difficult. I've heard of plenty of angel breeders having no problem with water parameters similar to yours.

Thanks. Im feeding them the Black worms, and tubifex worms, and Protien Flake, so i dont think they will be in shortage of that! I saw the angels fanning the eggs adn 2 eggs fell off, both fungused. I will have to wait till next time, again. Im going to try and pic up more PVC, and put it where they are spawning.

I bought a air stone and put it under the eggs . It hasnt knocked any off. I am hopeing that it will keep some eggs alive.
