I have a large fancy goldfish which has had fin rot for some time. I have tried numerous treatments which seem to get rid of the fin rot but for it only to come back. I suspect that the fin rot is a secondary infection caused by some internal bacteria and think the only way I can effectivley treat it is with antibiotics. I know that in the UK you can only get fish antibiotics from a vet but can anyone get fish antibiotics from a vet or do you have to be in the fish trade?

You can use are but you have to no what you are doing, try an internal bacteria med by interpet, and do some salt baths, also add some salt to the tank.

Once a fish has finrot they are prone to it keep coming back, how big is the tank, what are your test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, do you keep anymore fish with it, how many which type.

The tank is 33G, have another fancy of the same size (3"-4"), a baby pearlscale (1") and two weather loaches (5"). PH is 7.0 - 7.2, Ammonia = 0, Nitrite = 0, Nitrate < 10.

Have treated with Formaldahyde (King British Bacteria Control), 2-Phenoxyethanol (interpet fin rot) and salt baths.

Am considering using both at the same time if I can find out whether it's safe.

Been doing weekly 50% water changes and weeking gravel filtering.

How bad is the finrot.

Originally it started out with a 5mm hole in his gill which I cured and has healed. Then red blotches appeared on his body and red streakes in fins. Then the tip of his tail started to rot, which I have cured and is now healing. However today I have noticed more red patches on his tail and body at the bases of the fins.

You do need antibiotic you have septicemia, but it hard to cure, it's sounding to late now if you haven't a antibiotic treatment, I have sent you a private message.

Thanks but how can I get hold of the antibiotics, can I just get them from my local vet?

Sent you a private message.
