Fish Advise

I've got a 40 gallons fish tank currently setup for African Cichlids. I want to change it all over to a community tank. What do i need to do??? What fish can i get???
I like colourful fish like the neons,guppies that won't grow to much.
What do you guys think???

Just wanna add that i like mixing fish don't like the same colour or same type
of fish in the tank, so what types can i mix togetter aswell please.
