I have a cichlid tank and also have a catfish in there, the catfish is breathing very fast and swimming in circles.. the PH is up a little high 8.4 or 8.6 the hardness is also up to 300.. the cichlids seem fine but the catfish and also the algea eater dont look so happy.. what should I do with my water?

thanks

Personally I would do a full water check first to see what my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings are!!

I am far from being an expert so hopefully there is someone on here who could help you!

Any level of nitrite needs be brought down to zero ASAP. Do a couple of big water changes (warm, dechlorinated, of course) and don't feed at all for a couple of days and see what happens.

+1 This is seriously important. That will be the problem, You cannot have ANY Nitrite's in your tank.
