My pregnant guppy just had one fry, it was in the main tank, and I was so surprised to see it. There were no others, and the mother is still heavily pregnant. I put the fry in an empty betta tank (the only thing I had on hand..) and put the mother in a breeder net. She's not very happy about it, and trying to get out. I don't want her to exaust herself, or stress her too much, but I don't want her to have the fry in the tank where the other fish could eat them before I get to them.

Will she be okay, and is it normal for a guppy to have just one fry, then go without having any more for a while. I know guppies can have fry at one time, and have the rest of their fry a week or two later, but...well, I seriously don't know what to expect.

she might be dropping the rest in the next few hours and she couldve already had some and they were eaten. im not entirely sure

Ok, well, she didn't have any more fry. She stopped looking really pregnant and went back to looking like a normal female guppy. The one fry she did have is doing great, as is it's mother.

I released the female back into the tank, cleaned the breeder net, and but the fry into it. It'll stay in the main tank until it's either bigger, or the net is needed again. Which ever comes first.

=)

good luck with your baby
you can get special liquid fry food for when theyre teeny or powdered normal flake will do if you havent anything else.

good luck - have you checked carefully for more fry? im guessing it was your guppies first birth , which would explain the small quantity of fry

I found another, right before it was sucked into the filter. but I got it out, and it's fine ^-^

It was her first birth, and she might have had a few more that were eaten. The two that I have now, though, are doing fine.

I'm going out today as soon as I can to get some liquifry. They've been happy with the finely crushed flakes I've given them, and seem to be eating well.

if you do, make sure you get the right stuff for live bearers. Get some brine shrimp eggs too. Its real easy getting freshly hatched live brine shrimp. The adults and babies eat them too!
