Greetings:

Four days ago I added 7 fish (two zebra danios, two head and tail lights, two other tetra (can't remember exact name), and one betta) to a 26 gallon tank that was filtered and aereated extensively. At the same time I added BioSpira. At that time, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate were all zero and pH was 7.5.

My first readings after four days are:
NH3 0.25
NO2 0.25
NO3 0

water temp is 78F and I am running one of those aereator discs at full flow.

I thought the ammonia would peak before I got any NO2 readings but am not sure since I used BioSpira. Do these readings make sense and how often should I be taking future readings?

Thanks in advance for advice.

i'm not sure how bio spira would affect ammonia and nitrite readings, never used a product like that myself.

here's some reading on cycling with fish

I "think" that the biospira might limit how high the ammonia level might go at first since the bacteria are already in place ready to munch on the ammonia. This then might accelerate the appearance of nitrites.

This is just conjecture and was wondering if someone else had used BioSpira and had monitored their readings.

I'll keep everyone posted. This could be an interesting study.

Thank you.
