Thought someone may get a kick out of this. this is a pic of a breeding pair of red crontails that I am breeding in a tub located outside in my yard, the tub was seeded with daphnia and allowed to grow for about 3 weeks before the pair was introduced, they absolutely decimated the population to literally nothing, but the result is a happy breeding pair....

How long after they were introduced did they start to wrap? Were they conditioned at all before going into the tub? Will the babies stay outside or are you going to move them indoors to a larger tank?
Fascinating idea!!

Yes, in warmer climates betta breeding would almost be easier to do outside. masquito larve and daphnia make an excellent food source for both the spawning pair and new fry. Beautiful pic. :good:

Yeah they where conditioned with all the live food they could handle for 2 weeks prior to them actually starting to spawn.
I will be removing the adults to other tubs once the fry hatch, this is a 55 gallon drum and has plenty of green water and stuff to be able to sustain the fry and allow them to grow fast (I am hoping). I have about 3 otehr tubs that contain daphnia and that and blackworms are the only food that they are getting from me, I am pretty sure they are getting other stuff to eat as far as bugs that fall into the water and mosquitoes. I have 1 more female that is ready to pop as well, but i am not sure if the male will be up to that task. how long after I remove him can I set him up on a date with the next chick?
