Me again,

Looking to get 3 Zebra loaches at the weekend and possibly 2 or 3 Otto's, they will live in a quarantine tank of @ 30 litres.

First question, is this too many fish for a 2 week period in this tank (will be using filter media from cycled tank), second question is what do I feed them, there is no algae in this tank (plenty in my other) and these are the first bottom dwellers I've had.

Thanks,

Keith

Veg.
Cucumber, sweet potatoe, potatoe. Cut some up in slices (about 1cm thick or what ever you want), then boil some water, poor it into a cup with the veg in, and leave it for 15 mins. Then drop it into the tank, if it doesnt sink push it down below the water and it should sink, if not weigh it down or bury it partially.
EDIT: also they may like some algae wafers.

Hi,

As your 180 has so few fish in it has it just cycled? If it has i would hold off getting the otos for a while as they are sensitive fish and need a mature tank (6 months +) with algae growth to survive. I have had several in the past and find that if you add them to a mature tank with live plants you get a better survival rate. You could have a group of 6 in your 180 no problems, they tend to hang around together. An algae eater you could get now is a bristlenose plec, they are more hardy than otos and would be fine in a newly cycled tank.

yeah, i've read and heard the same about Otto's being fragile fish. Personally, I put 3 in my 20gal when it was newly cycled. One of those 3 perished 3-4 days after adding all the fish (only death). I replaced him with another Otto to bring my numbers back up to 3 and they're all happy now. I feed them algae tabs. Tried Cuccumber but they didnt eat it :(
