When I joined was surprised how many experienced members were here.
Also active and fun.

i only joined yesterday and now i know so much more about my fish than i did before
You learn fast on here.
Welcome to the board.

when i first joined it was like "whoaaa, wtf, how much could you possibly be to know to keep a fish tank" turns out it was alot

I thought the same as you Wilder, a lot of experienced members!
Some great people on this forum.

I'm only a newbie - but for what it's worth... fab forum, so many very knowledgeable people, most seem to be able to type with a smile on their fingers (!), great search function! This was only my second attempt at a forum, had tried a previous forum - some were really knowledgeable but a bit patronising and I got flashbacks to my life as a 2 yr old.

This forum's great :shout: And thanks to all those past & future posters who will help me :good: :good:

There is lots of info to read about alot of different aspects reagarding the hobby of fish keeping. It is a very well designed forum. Better then other ones i am a member of.

My first impression was that i know everything and that i would just help the others out but now I keep asking for advice!

1 The wealth of knowledge is amazing. Already I know infinitely more than the zilch I knew when I joined (all of what - a fortnight ago  ) A *huge* thank you to everyone who has answered my idiotic questions with patience and good humour - and for the filter media :good:

2 There are many posters here whose intelligence and depth of understanding of their subject shines out - despite the fact that I know so little myself. You'd think it would be difficult, as a beginner, to spot who is a pinnacle of fish-keeping excellence, and who is talking out of their arse - but surprisingly, it isn't [shrug]

3 Plenty of high-school drama - pull up a seat and bring your popcorn :hyper: .

4 Even as a newbie, there are already certain people whose names are enough to make me read a thread. (some because of 2, some because of 3   )

5 The design is reassuringly similar to other forums I have used - and thus (to me) pretty easy to use

6 It's friendly - on the whole. I do like the fact that there is such a range of experience here - from loads to very little, and anything inbetween. If *everyone* was a pinnacle of fishkeeping excellence I'd never dare say a word

7 It's a laugh

8 I love it here. Thank you again, for all your help - I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

my first impression was...OMG I messed up so bad. All my fish are going to die. Since then I've learned alot...dwarf puffers are not community fish among other things.

Another newbie here, been browsing for a while now, just started posting. I've had successful tanks for years (with the same healthy fish in them for years that is) and just started back after a long break. Was fortunate to start out with a good LFS and used to eat up every book and magazine I could find, but its so much easier to research now with resources like these forums.

Forums already helped me get my aquariums planted and my plants are thriving, hopefully I can try a saltwater reef sometime in the near future as well. There really is a wealth of knowledge here, and the people are just about the nicest group I've seen on a forum in a while. I've seen a few come across as harsh, but it usually tends to be in the best interests of the fish. Recommend it to anyone starting up a new tank. :good:
