First Delivery, Am I Doing This Right?

I'm sure crushed flake is fine. I happen to have the hikari, so I might as well use it. How long will it take these guys to grow large enough to go in the big tank? I think they would have to be at least 1/2 of an inch long to avoid being eaten, how long does it usually take platys to reach that size? In a month I will need the fry tank again.......I guess I will cross that bridge when i come to it. I found a lfs that will take the ones I can't keep but they have to be an inch long. I will try to squeeze in another feeding if I can.

The tank is only five gallon but the fry are super-tiny. I'm sure they wont tax it too much. The ammonia was just a little high when I tested it yesterday, probably from the betta who has been in it for months and I've been a tad bit lax changing his water. It should be fine now for a week I think. I haven't quite figured out what I am going to do when I have eight or so half grown fry in my already crowded 29 gallon, but maybe this is the excuse to get that nice ten gallon I've been wanting, I could use it as a fry grow-out tank. I have a ten gallon stand someone gave me, but the local lfs wants sixty dollars for a tank kit that size! I am going to check out walmart and see if its any better.

You're looking at a month and a half I think to hit your half inch mark.

WalMart should be better on the tank kit. If you skip the lid and lights, the tanks should be about $10. Filters and heaters are $10 each too. That makes it $30 instead of $50 or $60 bucks. Plus your heater and filter will be better. The tanks are in PetCo, PetSmart or WalMart, and the heater and filters are available online at PetSmart. I like AquaClear HOB filters for smaller tanks and just about any submersible heater will do well.
