I got my first betta fish today! He has a purple body with 2 stripes of yellow and white on his fins. the Store said he's a Half Moon Betta. He lives in a 5 gallon aquarium(It's kind of bare right now) with 5 red cherry shrimp. I'll take pics later. He isn't eating his pellets, but he's trying to eat some roots flying around(I just planted some plants) but he always spits them out. He also tried eating the ends of some plants.

I think I got a little ripped off here, though. :X I think he's a Delta, not a crowntail. Guess what: Deltas were $3.99, and crowntails were $12.99 :fun: ! He was being sold as a crowntail. I'm stil glad I got him, though. I got to feed him two pellets and after that he just stared at me from his cave(the rock on the bottom left of the pic, you can barely see the opening in the pic, but it's like a mini cave) for the next 5 minutes :lol: I've got to get a pic of him in there.

P.S. Just noticed, his body is purple, but you can't really see it in the pics of him because of the lighting.

Thanks. I'm thinking of naming him Candy Corn, because of his fin colors and that halloween was a week or 2 ago. I'm not sure yet, though.

I have a few questions...
1. He's always going into the tightest places(eg: that small crack between the micro sword and the glass, or between the sideways terra cotta pot and the glass) and gets into an odd position and it looks like he's stuck but then after thrashing around, he gets out. Should I be worried and what's wrong?
2.sometimes he swims into the glass and keeps swimming into the glass for a few seconds. Again, is there something wrong?
3. He has some black markings on the edges of parts of his fins. There's nothing that looks like the fin is deteriorating. Is it fin rot or ccould that be just his natural coloring? Thanks. (Oh yeah: In the first pic I posted, you can see some of the black markings are visible at the tip of the caudal fin and some at the top right edge of the anal fin, so you can see it.)

3. No, that could be just his natural colouring. Some of my Bettas have that.... Or, they did; and then, it went aways. ^^;

Nice find! :hyper: What size tank does he live in, may I ask? ^^;
Thanks :) I was deciding between him and a bigger kinda more agressive red halfmoon(they were flaring at each other)and I think if I got that one, he'd probably eat the shrimp. This guy's very alert, and sometimes stares at the shrimp and chases them, but I don't think he could eat them. He lives in a 5 gallon. He's kind of small(Or maybe not, I'm really not sure, I think so though) so hopefully he'll be with my=e a long time.

What are your tank dimensions? I think that he'd still have to be a fry to look that small in the tank. :lol: Sorry. It looks a *lot* like it could be a 10-gallon, thoughs. ^^;

EDIT: What did you think of Libra? ^^; I saw that you were viewing his topic, in his profile~ ^^;

The dimensions are 16(L), 8.5(W), 10(H) In inches. Wow, does he really seem that small? He does seem like he really has to chew to swallow those pellets(Could be just me, though). He doesn't seem too small in person looking at him right now, he looks like about 1.5-2 inches, and that's a normal size right? It could be the angle of the photo maybe.

Yes, I was reading that. I thought it was ironic(if that's the right word) that Mr. Wimpy fish was the one who was flaring at Libra because you named him Mr. Wimpyfish because he was wimpy, IIRC?

EDIT: It's really worrying me about the running into wall thing, he seems to be doing it a lot. And I think(not sure) that when he's running into the wall is also the time when he gets stuck in the micro sword. Can anyone help with this? :huh:
