I'd say semi-aggressive. My bigger one chases the other Firemouth and smaller Green Terrors(dunno how long that'll last!) but leaves the Tiger Barbs and Loaches well alone.

Maybe its a Cichlid war thing?! :flex:

Semi aggressive is a much better description. They are actually 'all show and no go' tending to try to scare other fish away rather than actually doing anything but they do get large and could do some damage. Wonderful fish though.

Mines just a baby but I had to take him out of the tank with the cories because they kept invading his little nook and he thought their eyes were pretty and edible. But now I have to fight with my guppies so they don't steak his food away cause he's a pushover with them. Mind you he's just little, so he could grow up and be evil... :dunno:

I would say peaceful, for a cichlid; semi aggressive as a tropical fish.

Mine is very peaceful (for a cichlid). He's never bothered any fish - from guppies to mollies to sharks - he doesnt care about anyone or anything and will (normally) be fine in a community tank - they just need to be watched just in case.
But if mine is a normal one then they are as peaceful as a fish can get

Just watch it if they start breeding - then they can be quite evil.

so how would there fair in a communinty tank shareing with rams neons cories hatchetcs and the like?

or poss with angels and no neons and hatchets

Almost certainly ok with the cories, neons could get eaten as the FM matures, not too sure on the hatchets as no experience with them. Basically no small fish and any other semi-aggressive fish would be a risk, certainly possible but do some research.

I wouldn't risk neons as 'non aggressive for cichlids' is still a cichlid. They will eat almost any fish that they can fit into their mouths.

As said above, firemouths are semi-aggressive and will leave most fish alone and despite their small size (for a cichlid anyway) they can hold their own against many of their larger cousins. ;)

Any larger bodied shoaling fish is fine with firemouths, including hatchets, as long as they are kept in appropriate numbers (at the very least 6).

I would also classify them as 'peaceful', but it's always important to keep in mind, as already mentioned, that peaceful with cichlids is not very peaceful. They are still territorial.

Yep there all show no go mine never attacks any of my fish!
My firemouth check out the third pic.... he's just bluffing

Great pics leroy! :D
