Hi can someone tell me if Firmouths and malawi Chiclids go togeter.

Today i went to the fish shop and it is the first time i so these firemouths so i was interested in them but i did not know if they go with my chiclids and the owner of the pet shop is only interested in money

Thanks in advance.

Definate no-no putting a firemouth in with Malawi's, especially Mbuna. The Firemouth won't cope with the aggression, not to mention the different dietary requirements. :/

Malawi and new world cichlids like the FM have extremetly different behavior. In a sense you can say they speak different languages and it creates a barrier in which only violence can solve the issue. As a human species we're well aquainted with this problem. They also come from very different biotopes where the environement, diet, and lifestyle are comletely different. Cichlids are unfortunately a class shared by extremely different fish that can be completely incompatible and in the end it's best to assume that different cichlids will not work together unless proven otherwise. Choose what type of tank you want and stick to it - keeping these fish in the proper environement only pays off - keeping them in any random condition will only lead to a poor experience.

Must admit i know how you feel there emannuel, tis a shame, my lfs has some nice size ones in and it is very tempting but as said above its a definate fantasy only for me :/
