Firemouthhs & Kribs

As said the Rams will be too sensitive and too fragile to cope with the kribs and Firemouths, Also having two cichlids is probably the max for this size of tank in terms of territories.

Ok so size of tank is looking at around 56 US Gallons

so very roughly if you allocate say 10G for the Firemouth, 8G for the kribs that gives you say 40G for dithers,

so again very roughly if we say we have 10G for the upper level and then 15G for the middle and bottom level,

so examples of fish that could work in the stocking include the following:

top - 6 Hatchet fish OR 2 Golden Panchax OR 10 Harlequinns or 5 Giant Danios OR 3 Pearl Gourami

middle - 3 Swordtails (1M2F), 5 Platy (2M3F), 6 Black Neons, 6 Zebra/leopard Danio, 5 Black Ruby barbs (you should get away with 2 from this group)

Bottom - 8 Corydoras, OR 2 Bristlenose/Bulldog plecs, OR 3 Siamese Algae Eaters OR 5 Corysdoras and 1 Bristlenose/Bulldog

Davo, he can't have cory's with kribs. It will end badly. Same with neons and smaller danios. I have seen a male albino catch neons and danios and eat them. They were in his territory.

   so no corys dont want neons anyway been told they are not the best to keep at moment what about bn plecs ?
this harder than keeping my 10ft tank
all help is welcome :good:
regards peter

The tank was obviously too small then if the tetras got eaten, I kept a pair of kribs for years in with the likes of bronze corys and pristella tetras and never had a problem,

I'd also say if anything the Firemouths would be more of a threat than the kribs, atm i have a dominant Male variant that rules the roost in a 475L

It was a 20 gallon Flat Hexagon tank. It was not overstocked, and there was plenty of plants ect. The Danio went lurking in his territory and bam, the krib had him. I've seen the same happen with neons (they are tiny tetras though). I have never had a big problem with Firemouths because they are not that agressive and prefer the middle part of the tank, as opposed to the caves on the bottom.

yes but to be fair in a 20G hex there isn't much of the tank that isn't his territory,

In a four foot long setup, chances of success are going to be much more likely

I've kept Danio's with Kribs. They couldn't get anywhere near them. Plus the Danio's stay at the top of the tank, away from the Kribs at the bottom/middle region of the tank.

Of course they are 'Super red' Apistogramma Cacatuoides. Female is yellow, male is the red one.

They are nice fish. They do require soft water. I kept some in my pH of 8.4, it didn't work out too well to say the least.

I did have 2 firemouths and 2 kribs in a 240 litre tank, they never bothered each other.
The kribs are male and female but have never layed but do have there territory.
I did have a little problem with the firemouths tho, they got along fine for about 7 month and then they did randomly start to fight (quick and constant, i didnt even notice) &
one got hurt pretty bad, i tried to save it and move to a diff tank but once it got hurt from the other firemouth my green terrors moved in for food

I guess they're just like most cichlids, sometimes they'll get along sometimes they wont.. just keep an eye on them if u do it imo :good:
