My situation-
In my 75 gallon I have 2 giant danios, 8 or 10 red eyed tetras, a neon dwarf rainbowfish, a pleco, 2 semi adult firemouths (not fully grown but breeding), 2 inchlong firemouths, a 4 inch pleco and a black ghost knife fish.

I have a 20 gallon with 3 platys. I was/am using this as a quar for the 75. The platys were bought from a store and have made it for almost 2 weeks with no problems. I am keeping them in the 20 to keep it cycled.

The eggs from the 2 larger firemouths are breaking open and I can see the very small free swimming fry. I would like very much to raise some of these if possible. Will the parents be able to protect the fry from all the other fish in my 75 or should I move the platys into the 75 and the fry into the 20? If so, should I move the parents as well, and at what point do I decide to move them?

Thank you for your help.

They make very good parents, I'd be inclined to leave them unless their protective aggression proves too much for the other fish.

same here. i read some where in a drsfostersmith magazine those are good parents. they hardly eat their young.
