I have 5 Firemouths in my Aquarium 2 nearly fully grown and 3 juvenille. I have had the juvenilles for about 2-3 months and they dont appear to have grown?

I have a large tank Juwel RIO 180 that I do a partial water change in weekly ad maintain the filter accordningly and feed them on a mix of Tetramin Flake & Blood worms.

Is this apparent `no growth` normal? should I introduce some live food into their diet?

Ant feedback apprectiated. :D

Cheers guys,

Hi mate

Firemouths are not the fastest of growers but there also not the slowest either, flake food is not really ideal for cichlids so if i was you i'd mix up there diet a bit, by mixing it up your adding different vitamins to the fish which helps there growth rate, colouration in body and basicly keeps them in good health.

So what i suggest is you get your self some sort of cichlids pellets which are quality you tend to get more for your money keep buying blood worm live or frozen dosen't really matter, you can even buy pure protein pellets which help with the fishes growth rate also now it dosen't happen over night ... lol but it does help i have used them in the past.

Hope this helps you anymore questions just ask.

Dan.

I to have used the protein pellets, and they also make your fish more active as well as help them along with their growth rate.

In my experience Firemouths are slow growers, in comparison my Jack Dempsey was half the size of my Firemouth when he was purchased, hes now twice the size at least.

Do not be worried too much that your Firemouths are growing slowly, it means you wont have to buy a bigger tank for a while.
