I have a very nice male firemouth and I would realy like to breed him
so could someone give me some info on what the best conditions are and if I should put him in his own tank or what?
thanks :good:
If I do have to put him in his own tank I have a 20 long that can be used

well since you already have the one that kind of excludes getting a group. playing match maker with cichlids is often very difficult, but the easiest way would be to get a female that is similar size or a touch smaller, pulling the male to the 20 long for a bit and rearranging the current tank make sure to include lots of rocks for caves, driftwood, and plant cover, then after a 3-5 days introduce the male back into the tank but and I can't stress this enough the old tank has to look like a totally new tank to him I would probably get a couple females just to give him a choice and then sell or rehome the females that don't get picked.

Thanks for the help but i have one more question
do I take out the other tank mates because hes with a barb a danio a yoyo loach and a little 1 inch con

I'd remove the other tank mates, a breeding pair of FM can turn nasty towards them.

what if I got the con and the firemouth a mate
the firemouth has his own little corner and so does the tiny little con
the con has bred befor and wasn't all to agressive until one day we had a power outage and the temp. dropped and she went crazy killed every fish in the tank
so could this work since the FM has his corner and the con is tiny compared to the FM
thanks     :good:

definatly wouldn't do both and definatly not the con..... they are known to take on fish many times their size when protecting their fry and do some real damage.
