I just bought a fire fish and plan on feeding it mysis, and other such frozen foods. I was wondering if it would be best to buy more of these fish and keep them in a group.

form what I've learnt at work about these fish.
they are shy and docile and should only be kept with other shy/docile fish.
you should have one or in a big tank two, preferably a M/F pair.
you should not have any other dartfish as these will be seen as rivals

of course I'm no expert on salty, so perhaps one will come along and validate or
invalidte what I've said.

yeah they can easily be picked on so don't keep them with anything agressive.

as wolfy said no other dartfish, but you can keep more than 1 firefish provided you've a decent sized tank.

should eat pretty much anything and everything, not found a food ours won't take yet!

lovely litle fish :good:

my firefish is pretty assertive, he is out all day long only in his cave when the lights go out. mine only eats mysis and flake food though fussy git.

how do you sex them by the way? i wouldn't mind having a pair of them

I liked my Firefish, but he was unfortunately outcompeted by my Midas Blenny. At which point I switched to medium sized fish.

Keeping Firefish in pairs is a risk. I do know that Helfrich's Firefish will fight with each other. I think the red ones fair better in groups than in pairs, since aggression will be spread out.

I went to my lfs today and saw a group of red firefishes in a 40 gallon tank. I hav a 55 gallon so i think im goin to try 3 of them. The damsels are all full grown and actually docile. Good idea? or bad?
