i ahve now decided to do a diffrent tank in this tank i a m going to have a fire eel to dominate the bottom of the tank i understand they grow large and slow is the slow part true its tank mates are going to be things like angels, gourami and various other cichlids also corydoras catfish or brotkis and may be the larger variety of tetras or hatchet fishes :alien:

Hi lukenat,
If you want a spiny eel I would go for the tyre track, I know it is not as colourful but they are much easier to keep and cheaper. They also don't grow quite so large.
you could have a wide range of tank mates, gouramis I think might be the best choice and/or angels depending on tank size.

I'am sure youv'e heard this but remember to have tightly fitted covers as they are great escape artists

the fire eel is easier to keep than tyre-track eels, they are more compatable and less aggressive with nother eels and other fish.

they grow slow, like being in groups and can reach 1m where tyre-tracks get 70cm and do not like other eels, and will attack small fishes (mine killed an angelfish, my fire lives with neons)

I've owned a couple of fire eels and have had trouble getting them to eat, as for aggression with tyre tracks I have no problems with mine I have 3 in my 150gal and 2 in my 120gal, the longest of which is over 24".

but then all fish are different in temperment
