One of my new Rams seems to have taken a bit of a battering on her fins over night. Haven't worked out who the culprit is yet.

Anyway she's looking a little sorry for herself, almost swimming in circles with one fin longer than the other.

Any idea how long they take to grow back? Assuming she doesn't get got again.

Can you issolate the fish as she sounds stressed, add some salt or melafix to the tank.

If you already had rams and got a new one, the culprit is/are your original rams. They were probably trying to establish hierarchy and establish new territories to accomodate the new member. I'd just add a little salt (if your other fish allow for it) and leave her there. It shouldn't take long to heal and grow back (as little as a couple of weeks), provided the water is clean and the injury not so bad as to get infected. Give her some live foods and a good place to hide if necessary. The reason I wouldn't take her out is that when you put her back in the same thing will happen again. It's better to just leave her there and they should eventualy settle their disputes. Only take her out if she shows signs of serious injury or infection or if they don't settle down soon.

I have a Red white mountain Cloud who's tail was half bitten off 4 weeks ago. It has now grown totally back, although a little paler than before and a Zebra danio had been nibbled at and that's ok now. These are in a cycling tank and I added melafix. I would have thought they would heal quicker in an established tank. :)

Fins do grow back, Melafix is a natural tea tree medication that works wonders to help the process (I would personally advise reducing the recommended dose if you have Betta in the tank, though (some are sensitive to Melafix) hence the same company supply "Bettafix" which is a diluted version)

When the finage grows back, it will be transparent for a while, but eventually will colour up again :)

i find that fins on my fish grow back extremely fast, cept one of my firemouths tail is half missing, i rescued him from the ''assorted cichlids'' tank lol, it almost all back in just 2 weeks :D

i have found that fins will grow quicker on different types of fish.
also i have noticed that the fins of fish that usually fight, such as my serpae tetras will grow back quicker

Hmmm... That makes sense, never thought of that before...

the only reason that i noticed is because i never treat the tank with my serpae tetras in it but they seem to be able to regrow a missing fin in a week or two and any small damage is usually healed withing a few days

Their my first Rams. No territory to establish. She seems to be doin OK keeping her colour well if not better than the other. Can't seperate her though but no more agression seems to be aimed at her.

But... I thnk we might have some early signs of white spot
