Guessing its some sort of fin rot?
Just to clarify - daily water changes, melafix, salt???
Anything else, all of the above, none of the above etc... amazing innit, you treat them all the same, with the same amount of love and care and one of them gets this way. How do you explain that?!

yup water changes daily, melafix or myxazin (sp) for 5 days, try to keep the temp at a steady average 26 degrees, i never use salt, age has a lot to do with it and then there is the controversial (sp again hehe) debate on whether genetics have anything to do with being prone to deseases and certain condtions.
not ness finrot though but it could start with them being pinned

When you say genetics, what does that mean in terms of how prone/not prone they would be to disease?
Cheers mate

yep, thats it, theres no proof of it but at the same time, look how humans are with passing on defects and illlnesses that come on in later life so why not a fish

OK thanks but i'm not sure how 3 day apart water changes equates to stale water:(

I have just lost about half of my bettas to columnis(spelling wrong) or guppy disease. it was really fast and spread like wild fire. I only managed to save one that was ill and I had just treated him for popeye as well. Their fins started with being clamped so be really careful not to cross contaminate...like I did

I had this doing to a hm before.I put him in a tank with indian almond leaf and within 24 hours he was fine again,Also get him flaring and it helps it ocme aprt from each other.Hope this helps.Ben.

Thank you do I use a whole leaf?

depends on tank.

If its a 2ft i would just go ahead and stick in a whole leaf but anything smaller i would use 1/2 - 3/4 of a leaf.Hope this helps.Thanks.Ben.

Oooh it's working thank you ever so much for the advice

Any idea what does this, a fish with perfectly healthy finnage, suddenly over night clamps without showing signs of actual rot?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but would using humaquat work (obviously not to the same effect) if you can't get hold of IAL??
