Diamond's anal fin is changing color... his fins used to be clear with a white butterfly pattern, but now his anal fin is starting to turn completely white. It started as just a little white streak, but now it's at least a quarter inch wide and goes all the way down his fin. I know it's not fungus or columnaris, because the fin looks fine, and it's a transluscent white, like the white of the butterfly pattern. Any idea why his anal fin would be changing color?

How old is your fish?
Are there any other fish in with him?
What are your water perameters?
Have a look around the net for finfo on finrot I know this sometimes turns the fins white.

I'm not sure how old he is... I got him a little less than a year ago from PetCo, so he's probably at least a year and a half. He has always had a thin white line... it's just getting bigger now. It's a translucent white, so I don't think it's fin rot, though I guess it could be. The parameters are fine... the water is pretty hard, but that's about it. Everything else is normal. There are usually two other bettas with him (divided tank, of course) but one of them has been in a seperate bowl for over a week with columnaris. This thing with Diamond has been VERY gradual... over a few months, which is another reason I don't think it's fin rot. Can they change with age?

Some Bettas are like that. Mine is doing the same thing, and he's perfectly healthy. (The one in my avy)

To be honest sweetie i don't know about age, i haven't been keeping that long. Perhaps later tonight someone more experianced will be on and they may answer.

For now though just relax as you say if it's not opaque then it's probably nothing so don't worry too much. I'm sure he'll be fine!

Yeah, he's acting normally, I was just curious as to whether or not this was normal for bettas. He does have a slight bit of fin rot, which he is recovering from slowly but surely. :) (I'm beginning to wonder if he's a tail biter, because he always seems to have "fin rot" even when the other two are perfectly fine. :p Not to mention that it's only ever on his tail.)
