Well i was hoping to try to cope with this one myself..but i don't think i am coping too well.

One of my platy (Lewis, who i entered into FOTM comp) has developed severe mouth rot, his whole top lip has gone, and he also has a white patch on his tail, with some missing, and a white patch on his back.

I introduced another male a week ago when i removed Tiger (platy) because they were all picking on him and he was hiding.
Only for this New platy to decide HE wants to run the joint, and is chasing them all about. The bully's are now being bullied (karma huh?! lol)

i was hoping to rid of this by frequent w/c's but no improvement, so i am on day 3 of Myxazin.
I have some pics of Lewis that i will add shortly.

Water stats

Amm = 0 Ni = 0 Na = 20 ph 7.2
weekly w/c of 50%
only new addition was Rocky about a week ago. He looks absolutly fine, no rot at all.

am i doing the right thing?

little hard to see...but this is his mouth.

Is that the same tank where the cories died or is it another one?
Keep treating as you've already started, but keep an eye on cottony white stuff on the back and mouth in case it is columnaris. I can't really see anything like that on the pictures, but just going by your description.
If it is fin rot, it can start off from parasites attacking the fish, then turn to bacterial finrot, and if not cured, to fungal infection. So it is hard to say what it is and how to cure it.
If you have so many tanks, why not use some for quarantine instead?

its the same tank as the cories...none of them had any signs whatso ever..no fin rot nuffin??
I am still treating Myxazin. He looks slightly better today but hiding alot.
The others show no signs at all. maybe it was a nip from Rocky and fungus set in? Hopefully the Myxazin will cure it.

He has got worse over the weekend..so i Quarenteened him tonight with media from his tank in a spare filter.
He now has the rot on his side fins and his mouth is open all the time with the top lip missing..His tail has got worse too.

Can anyone help? will do some w/c's tomorrow i think.

Maybe time to try some real meds? I think most types of rots are bacterial in nature.
