Ok i have been to fishfinder.co.uk and fishbase.org

But i am looking for a database where you can search by compatibility. Does anyone know of a site??

E.g.

I want to find all fish that are compatible with lets say tiger barbs.

if i searched for this it would bring up a list that fits into the correct size / temprement / ph / temprature range..

I am sick and tired of looking through the databases and finding a fish i like then finding out it is not compatible with one of the other fish in the list.

Please help...

Thinkfish has a "community creator" - but please do not realy on it. I feel they advise to overstock and their rage of community fish is very limited. Use some common sense too :)

Excelent....

Well done just the thing for me.. its a good guide to get the basic fish then i can look deper for more specific fish (Expencive) in the fututre.

you can never rely on this kind of info if the fish you want to keep have the same water params or near enought then just try the mix and see what happens

its comen sense with most fish if you put guppys with piranhas the guppys will get eater

it doesnt take much working out that if you put a fish that will get to say 12inch with some thing that only grows to 2inch

the same goes for the how many inch of fish per gallon if i went buy that rule i could have 280 inch of fish so does that mean i can keep 10 x 28 inch asian arowanas in my tank i dont think so

dont mean to *****, but that rule is set up for beginners and it says thin boded under 3 ish " so no oyur right you couldnt keep 10X28" arrowannas but in theriry you could keep 280 neons

even 280 neons in a tank that size would still be very under stocked i some times put 100 neons in as feeders and if that rule was right in any way then 180 more and my tank would be fully stock

a data base with compatable fish would never work take discus you can mix them with most fish if you want but people go on about how hard they are to keep and they are best kept on their own

as long as you resurch each fish before you buy it and the water is near the same no big diffrence between really hard and really soft and the fish is not a pred then give it a go

I know what your all saying but if you go to the fishbase.org and start wading through the fish there then you will see 100's or 1000's of cool fish but then when you start looking into what you can keep or better yet what you can buy then it gets a bit difficult.

I would like to have a database that would produce a list of all fish that would fit the following params.

Top swimmers
temp range = 24 - 28 deg
ph 5 - 8
size 2 - 10cm

vegitarian
eats eggs
eats young
eats what ever it can get its mouth round

then a choice
easy to keep x
moderate to keep x
hard to keep x

choice two
Friendly to all
tempremental
agressive to smaller
agressive to own kind
agressive to all
fin nipper
plant eater

choice 3
min group size
1
2-5
5-10
10+

ability to bread in a tank

so then once you have chosen your base fish (min 3 types) that you want then you could also do a search for all other fish that fit within the paramiters of the base fish.

this also includes all fish that are aquarium type fish but un available to purchase.

Basically I would like to see the shopping list that LFS have to choose from so I can decide what I wanted and not what i was forced to choose from in there tanks.

easy then look throught books or on the net find what you want resurch it then get the LFS to order them in for you

most shops will order stuff in for you if you ask and give them the right latin name and leave a deposit

all the ?s you are asking have the answers in Dr axlrod fish atlas

I understand that, not every book has all the fish that are possible to buy or not all fish in the books are able to be purchased.

Also if you goto fish base.org it has every fish ever found but again how do you know you have seen every fish that is possible for aqariums and the size of fish i want to keep.

would you search through
29300 Species, 216800 Common names, 41300 Pictures,
37900 References

just to find 1 % of the fish that is right for your tank.

Also not all the species have pictures.

so what you need is a fully catagorised SQL seaachable database with cross referencing links.

It would be a rather complicated recursive database search to do it, but possible to create.... *starts to ponder on a project*
