After months of waiting on the opaline gourami to get big enough to deal with the gold gourami, I finally made the move. I had to take ALL the decorations out of the 55g (ARGH!) to catch the 2 Giant gouramis who were set on evading me. The java moss got yanked up, so in the end I practically had to place everything back in the tank again which took an hour.

Somehow, the pleco managed to become almost invisible during all this. I had to check each decoration to make sure it wasn't latched on inside. The 2 Pearls were quite upset over the whole thing and hid wherever possible. All the tetras stuck close together, but didn't try to hide too much. Poor opaline and the giants colors got quite drab. :/

Sal, the gold was easier to catch in the 20g, she thought she was going to get fed and was right at the surface. I felt like I was tricking her, but it was her idea there was food, I didn't use any to tempt her. She sure fills out a big size net. She is bigger than the opaline, but not too much, both of them are bigger than the Pearls, and all of them are bigger than the Giants, as far as gouramis go. When I placed her in the 55g, her mouth was clamped on the net! I don't know if she was biting it or had been gulping in a panic and it was stuck in her mouth. Anyone seen a gourami "bite" something?

She did okay upon release into the 55g and swam around. The opaline found her and there was no nipping, they even are swimming together. In typical 3-spot fashion, they were looking for food pretty fast. The Pearls have only just come out and didn't even eat they were so worried. Everyone else seems to be dealing okay and the pleco is picking around on the bottom where I cleaned the tank. The tetras are staying out of Sal's way for now. She poked the pleco as it sat motionless on the glass, not having been in with one before, then spooked when "it" moved. Don't know if she didn't know "it" was a fish or what. At least Sal is not able to chase corys now since there aren't any in the 55g and the tetras can all outmaneuver her if she decides to pick on them which so far she is not noticing them at all.

The Giants hid in the log decoration in the 20g for awhile after their transfer, but did come out to eat. They seem to be hanging with the corys a lot and picking at algae wafers with them. The corys seem oblivious to it all. The neons are giving the Giants a wide berth, but there is much less size difference now with these gouramis than there was with them and Sal. I didn't think about having 5 mostly brown fish in the 20g so will add some more neons once everyone settles in to give the tank more color.

Glad to have finally got the move over, it took up most of the evening and I hope everyone hits it off in their tanks with their new tank buddies. Time will tell, but so far, there are no immediate battles.

Sounds like fun, lol ;)
I find moveing fish around not only stressful to the fish, but aklso to me.
I like moving my bettas around, and once a week they rotate in the 5G.
One week one guy gets the 5G, the next week another guy does.
They dont get to stressed, its an easy move.

One time, i lost my net and was forced to catch my morays by hand. And people think cyprinids are slippery.... poor morays.

Just wanted to say I'm glad everything's worked out ok. Hopefuly they'll be ok permanently ;)

Sylvia, you know 3 spots really well. Everything is cool in the 20g, the giants are hanging out a lot with the corys and there is no aggression from anyone. I call it the peaceful tank. They all just eat and swim around.

Things aren't too bad in the 55g. Sal, the gold, has decided to bully the pearls at feeding time. Don't know why she decided on them instead of tetras? It is not serious chasing like she did to the corys and again only at feeding time. The opaline chases Sal sometimes, so it all evens out. No torn finnage or wounds. Otherwise, it seems to be working out and I think in the long run, it will be okay.

I still need to get a pick of the opaline to the list for a consensus on gender. Pointed longish dorsal, but I swear it is a girlish body. I got a picture phone a few weeks ago, maybe I can figure it out better than the digital camera and snap a few. I'm really eager to hear what others think.
