Finally my orange white and black Mickey Mouse has some fry in the breeding net this morning! Been waiting for her to go for ages! Let her out for the day yesterday so maybe that set her off.

But one thing I'm not sure of:

How can I tell if she's finished giving birth? It's hard to tell how many fry there are now (I put some ambulia in there too so they could hide from mum and feel protected) so it's hard to count. But I don't think there's THAT many - maybe ten tops?

So should I leave her in there longer? But then again, I don't want her eating the fry that are there too!

Should I start feeding them straightaway? I was just going to crush up flakes...

*edit*
Also - one of my pearl gouramis has gotten very clever and has figured out she can get at the food on the bottom/sides of the net by pecking at it through the net. Is this going to cause problems for my fry getting enough food? She's also transfixed by the moving fry in there and is even following a few - she can't hurt them can she?

My other options are to move the fry net into my betta's 5 gallon - he might not bother them as much. Worried about whether the water chemistry change might be bad though. Other option is to put the betta into the net and let the fry have the 5 gal - but I don't think the betta will like this for as long as it takes the fry to grow.

What do you think I should do?
