So I was finally able to find a good deal and picked up a 75 gallon tank this weekend. I got it all home without incident and rehomed the 3 inhabitants who were in it (an albino Rainbow shark, a Bala Shark, and a Striped Raphael Catfish). Time to start getting it nice and cleaned up!
Unfortunately with the way the stand is setup, I cannot put a canister filter in there as they would all be too tall. Instead I'm going to use an AC110 on one end of the tank and an AC50 on the other and see how that works initially. I picked up some play sand and am going to begin cleaning tonight.
I am looking for some general suggestions / feedback though. First, here is how my stocking is going to shake out. I'm going to be taking the inhabitants off my other two tanks and putting them in, as well as build up some numbers of new fish. Here's where I'm at:
5 Long Finned Zebra Danios
8 Lambchop Rasboras
3 Honey Gouramis
1 Betta Splendens
7 Peppered Cories
4 Panda Cories
6 Emerald Green Cories
2 Cardinal Tetras
2 LF BN Plecs
Currently, all those fish are in my 36 which is running two AC50's. There are a ton of fry in there too who are growing up quick, but I'm changing water pretty frequently. Here's how the stocking will end up currently (I've bolded the things that have changed):
5 Long Finned Zebra Danios
8 Lambchop Rasboras
3 Honey Gouramis
1 Betta Splendens
7 Peppered Cories
4 Panda Cories
10 Emerald Green Cories
10 Cardinal Tetras
2 LF BN Plecs
10 Rummynose Tetras
1 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
5 Botia Kubotia
I feel like that is a pretty decent amount of fish without getting overstocked. What are your thoughts or is there anything you would change? PS don't same get two more Panda Cories as I won't -- I'd almost rather rehome them and end up with 10 Peppereds and 10 Emeralds after seeing how well my Emeralds now school together in the 36, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them!
My other question was around going planted. Do you think I'll have enough circulation with the AC110 and AC50? I was considering getting a Koralia Nano to add just a touch of circulation as I have been running into issues with hair algae in my 36 and I'm not sure if two HOB filters, even if the 110 is a beast, will give me the circulation I need. Do you see any issues with any of the fish I have in terms of disliking the current too much (minus the Betta, but he's tough as nails and I'll have floating plant cover for him)?
Anyways, really pumped to get a new project started!
