Been trying to see this since I got my platy trio - I just watched one of my females dropping! Sparked a feeding frenzy in the tank, but I did manage to save one little fry in the net. There's at least two more in there, but I can't find them, so they'll probably be eaten before long. I'm just excited - both females have dropped before, but this is the first time I saw it happen.

The male doesn't seem interested in getting them pregnant anymore. I posted about this spaz before, but he's been mating constantly with the filter. The other female hasn't been pregnant in the last month at least.

Edit: managed to fish a few more fry out. She's still dropping - I thought she was done already. Somehow a danio got into the breeding net. He's looking very fat and quite proud of himself.

Unfortunate you couldn't save a few more, but congratulations :)
I'm yet to see my platys drop :(

When I first started keeping fish and one of my platies was dropping I hauled her out of the tank and she had all her fry in a half gallon jug. My grandparents freaked out... there's this little blonde maniac sitting at the dinner table spying on a fish giving birth!

Congratulation, any birth is a great sign of a good tank set up.

I have also had the pleasure of seeing one of my platys drop, and my bristlenose catfish spawning once, it makes quite an impact on the whole tanks behaviour and gives you a great feeling of achievement.

keep it up

wow congrats! i've only seen one of my platy drop in my life so far, it is very interesting :)

Belive me he will still mate with her lol...

Females hold sperm packets anyways for up to 6 months so she will continue having fry even without a male.

Congrats :)
all my female guppies are pregnant at the moment - different stages all dues within 2 weeks to any day and the males have resorted to trying to mate with the harlequins rasboras , snails , plants , bogwood and the congo tetras none of which are too pleased about it - well apart from the snails , bogwood and the plants lmao they dont seem to mind ;)
