Well I toke the plunge and bought some tetra complete substrate for my already set up tank toke me just over an hour after saving back half the water moving fish out etc!

not without my problems of keeping my filter alive! by running it in the storage crate I put the fish in... I did so at the cost of loseing one of my poor tertas ! went right up the impella and got badly hurt because I forgot to put the strainer on!

Then makeing sure all water was out pulled back half the gravel and layed the first half spinkled some gravel over and pulled back the second half trying not to catch the previous layed substrate! filled the tank up halfway with old water (hmm looking murky)

Next i planted it all up and went ahead adding more fresh water to fill the tank and poped the fish back! by this time the murky water diluted and things looked great! filter back in and heater etc and started them up!

after an hour or so tank cleared to a whiteish haze and hopfully gone for tommrow!

So just a couple of questions.....

do i need to use a liquid fertalizer still?

any other tips over the next few days/weeks I should do?

Carl minus a neon terta!

A decent trace fert weekly is still a good idea, it is a low light tank? If not already get lots and I mean LOTS of fast growing stem plants in the tank, the massive influx of nutrient in the substrate could cause havoc. The stems will help combat the potential algae out break.

Get a bargain pack from greenline, cheap but effective.

The tank is run by two 11w compact floresents (pinkish color) so in total 22w lit for 10 hour per day from 1pm to 11pm and its 65L tank I have used a 2.8kg bucket of tetra substrate with 3mm pea gravel about 3-4 cm thick and have 10 bunches of plants in there wich are new! nutrafin co2 system aswell!

So hopefully im doing right!
