Just as an update on this fishless cycle for a 6 gallon Fluva - I started this cycle on June 13th by bringing the water up to 5ppm. Watched it until it started going to 0 and then introduced ammonia to bring it back up to 3. On July 4th my ammonia AND Nitrites went to 0 so I kept adding ammonia for a week to confirm the readings. Had about 160ppm of Nitrates.
On the 9th of July I did the 90% water change and added fish. While I did this I also seeded a new Eheim 9 gallon tank with the cycled 6 gallon water. This tank had only been in operation a day before I did this.
After adding the fish I got the following water results :
6 Gallon - Ph 7.6
Ammona 0
Nitrites 0 - .25
Nitrates 5-10
9 Gallon after seeding - These results look a little suspicious for a newly seeded tank, but oh well, I'll take it and will do daily tests on it to confirm :
Ph 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 40-80
Just want to say thanks to all of you that has given me this education on fishless cycling, and would encourage anyone thinking about a new tank and fish to follow the advice on this Forum. The wait is well worth the peace of mind that the fish are going to be ok, and not to get in a hurry - every tank will be different.
Oh Yeah - The fish are Happy Happy Happy ......
