Hid guys,

just put 2 true percula clowns inot my10gal QT. Not sure if they are okay but I hope so, after my previous loses
I really want to have some fish in my tank.
I had 1200maxijet pump in a QT I thougth the water flow was too much for clowns so I installed
Koralia Nano, I think its better now.

Clowns are always together and they stays in the corner at the front glass if the tank.
Is that a normal behaiviour? Also when they stressed or sick what color changes I have to expect?

I tried to feed them already some tropical flakes, they took some but throws them back.
I also have some frozen Mysis and Brine shrimp I will give it to them later.
I want to by some dry krill also? What do u think? Anything else I can get for them?

I goal is to have them mostly on a dry food and give frozen on weekends for example.

What do you think?

Thank you very much guys. I will keep you posted.

Looks like one started to eat Brine shrimp, and eat very good. another one does not.
Could it be that the other one does not let him to take any food and second clown is kinda shy?
Because first one takes food faster and it looks like the other one could not get it, but I can be wrong.

Also both of them are still together in a corner, is that okay for them to be there for the whole day, since I got them?

I mixed some brine and mysis for them with Garlic, let see if they like it.

I think second clown started to eat too, not as much as first one. He is not that active compare to another one.
Both of them eat frozen mysis and brine shrimp.
I am worried because both of them dont like to leave one bottom corner, they move a little to the middle but always get back to that corner and stay there.

I am a little worried, but I think a good thing that they started to eat.

Testing QT water, everything is normal for now.

Also I noticed they often just open their mouth, what is that mean? they are hungry or need oxygen or maybe cant breathe?

Dunno but all the clown's I've kept do that too...

Sounds like you're going through picky-eater clownfish. Give them some time and they should be more active. They are territorial fish though so they may have just decided that they like that corner :)

Brine isn't the best food, but if it's all they're eating, well they have to eat something... Your best bet is to get them used to garlic-laced brine, and then they'll over time more readily accept garlic-laced whateverelse you feed :). In that pic though, they look very healthy to me. No significant spotting, healthy fins, no strange mucous, nice color, and no "withering away" look. Keep feedin em what you can, they'll come along :good:

Thanks. I just gave them dry spirulina flakes, and it looks they loved it. They started to move up to the surface to get some.

Yahooooo!... they finally started to swim everywhere. Yesterday night they were playing together for long time its so joyful to watch.

Hey guys,

water ammonia started to rise was around 0.25, I did 20% water change, clean filter and started to use Seachem Stabilization System.
Looks like it droped a little but not 0 for sure.

How do u guys fight ammonia in a QT without rocks and skimmer?

It looks like its impossible, I wlill check it tomorrow but I am worried.
Clowns looks great for now.

Thank you.

A cycled sponge filter? You kind of need rock or some form of cycled filter for a QT. Doesn't have to be much, but should be something...

Could not do anything about the ammonia. Had to move them spent 3 hours, was moving them one by one very slowly acclimatizing them.
They looks good now, hopefully tomorrow they will be fine too.

I got one opinion that when u use ammonia remover, as I did, ammonia still will be read by test kit but it will be detoxified and inactivated.

What do u think about that?

I used Amquel+ in our brackish tank. Just make sure you have a close eye on the ph as the main reagent is an acid that brings your ph down if you don't watch out.

It is very difficult to judge how real ammonia is present as the balance between ammonia (NH3) and ammonium (NH4+) shifts with the ph (among others parameters). Unfortunately, with higher ph the more ammonia you get.

As it is not to distinguish with the test kit you can only trust the ammonia remover.

Frequent water changes bring it also down but that's always a pain as you have to match salinity, temperature and ph at least.

BTW
Your link to the fish feeding article is very interesting and I liked this sentence: "Whole clams, krill, plankton, mysis shrimp, hermit crabs (the only useful purpose for these reef terrorists ), ... "
