than if he went back to the store to live in a 10g with 15 more
this isn't a valid point as the tanks the fish are in at shops are basically temp homes until someone comes and buys them.

Infact it would be beter off in the 10g at a shop as it can then be rehomed. IMO common goldfish have no place in tanks, get it in a pond.

You can ignore the problem all you want but in the end, we'll be saying " I told you so".

FANCY goldfish require a tank of atleasr 20 gallons. after that each additional goldfish require another 10 gallons. for 2 goldfish you would be 30 gallons...and so on.

10 gals is nothing really, if you think of a goldfish like an oscar but a but not such a big body now you imagine a full grown oscar in a bowl or small tank...it doesn't work!

i'll be moving in about 7 months , i'm gonna hav a pond in my new house where the goldfish can live with a few others.

i'm sure he's ok where he is for another 6 months ,don't you?

i live in the middleeast, where there r very few aquarium hobbyists.
over here 90% of sales at the fish stores are to 10 year olds, who keep 2 or 3 goldfish in a bowl :( .
and if the fish arn't sold they are left to die in the parasite infested 10g at stores who barely feed them twice a week.
even though there are some serious hobbyists, they don't buy goldfish due to their
sizes.

most stores here don't treat their water if the fish have diseases and when you walk into these stores you see half the fish in the tanks are dead and the other half dying because they eat the unremoved bodies of their friends  .

i'm not sayin all the stores are bad, some are superb(no dead fish, professional help,no dyed fish,no overstocking) but these stores don't accept fish from people due to disease risks.

now tell me,you still want me to give my fish back to the store? :/

From my own personal experience, I wouldn't risk my tank for a goldfish. Think of it this way. You're harming the fish just as much as you "claim" the other pet stores around you do. You can keep the fish or get it back to the store to get it a possible better home.

so what should i do?
a. find some space for a tank/pond
b. rehome him- at least he has a chance of getting a more suitable home- give him to a lfs or put up an add in a loacl newspaper or somthing, or buy a friend of yours a suitable sized tank for him who has space for it and teach him/her how to look after the fish.

there is absolutely no space for another tank
none of my friend r into fish
i already explained about the lfs
don't think any of my friend would be interested in fishkeeping

he's only 3 and a half inches
how much bigger can he get in 6 months

after that there is a huge pond waiting for him
