right after much looking around i think im pretty close to deciding the plants i want for my tank. 1stly outline of the setup 4x2x2 100 ukg low tech ( ie no co2) lighting 1wpg t8 substrate will be either tropica or kitty litter ( still yet to decide) ferts tpn+ tank temp will be 30 deg c as it will be a discus tank.
any issues with any of these?

background
echinodorus bleheri ( bought as a big motherplant)
hygro corymbosa ( motherplant also)
hygro polysperma
echinodorus rosea

midground
nymohea zenkeri
alternthera roseaflora
mayaca fluvilatis
cryptocorne willisii

foreground
echinodorus latifolius

how far apart should plants be placed ?

just thought of something else to ask . do any of these need to be planted in calmer areas of the tank ?

Some light should penetrate the bottom of the plants, so use that as a judge of spacing. Stemplants should be planted by individual stems or at most, in groups of two or three.

The only plant in the group I've not grown is the mayaca fluvilatis, so I cannot vouch for it's survival in a warmer environment. The rest I think have spent some time in my outdoor tub at one time or other during a Miami, FL summer, so they should be alright in a discus tank. None of them strike me as sensitive to current either.

excellent thanks for all your help lijdma06 . il be sure to get some pics up once its all done

if you're not gonna use CO2, Mark, i would suggest getting some Flourish Excel or Easycarbo. I used no CO2 or substitute for 6 months and then stumbled across Easycarbo in an LFS and haven't looked back. I am yet to mess about with proper CO2, this will be something to do when my little one gets a bit bigger. It could be dosed when you dose the TPN.

i am thinking about using easycarbo but i will take a look at flourish too .
