Fin Trouble

my Bettas dorsal fin started out with a pin hole, I used antibacterial and thought it was improving, then the fin got a tear and I switched to furan-2 anti bacterial which I thought was working but the fish began to look covered with gold, so as I was finishing up that I began general cure and the API rep said a crossover was ok...it's a 4 day treatment, today was the last day of it, the fin which is normally red with turqouise now appears thin a more or less green, it still looks like a gold coating to me and I see another pinhole...I did my water change and I'm running carbon in there right now and some melafix until I can figure out what med to try

what does it sound like to anyone?
the fishes habits are normal eating normal activity,normal breathing (it was rapid before the antibiotic)
I have not tried the antifungal onhim before
the pic shows the torn fin before it went thin and green

it could have been golden staph but unlikely.
Erethromycin will wipe out any filter bacteria so monitor the water quality if you use it.
I assume you removed the carbon from the filter when you treated the tank.

Have you checked the water parameters?
ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Most often issues with the water conditions cause problems like these and the best way to get the fish back on track is by sorting out the water issues.

yeh removed carbon, also water checked once or twice daily to be sure. I have had no water issues, everything has been 0, with meds waters been changed every 2nd or 3rd day. I thought I might have reduced my concentration of medicine by a water change, also the ph of my tap is about 7.6, do you think it's worth cutting with some RO, it's sounds like I should I do another course of the Erthyromiacin?( I got the noticeable results off that) Or should I try something else? What would be used on Golden Staph?

I wouldn't bother about dropping the PH with R/O water. 7.6 isn't too bad.

If you had results from the erythromycin then continue with it. Make sure you don't underdose with it tho. The last thing you want is a drug resistant form developing.

I am about start a new filter in an empty tank(never done a fishless cycle before) and I am wondering this...
ok filter in my tank right now is a 3i, and I'm running it with an aquaclear sponge in it only * for carbon to remove the meds I used a disposable penn plax carbon/sponge cartridge combo thing
I have a new (another) 3i to start, and I was planning to do it with it's biobag, and some of that aquaclear sponge, so my question is...what do you do with the sponge that had the antibiotics running through, can I restart it too or should I just chuck it out?
also have frozen microworms that I haven't been feeding him..do rinse them before serving? and how much would you give?
also do you think I should start the new filter in a 5 gal tank, or think about a 10 gal to which I could add some other fish once this is all straight?

microworms are usually alive and very small white worms.
Bloodwoms are avaiable frozen and are red. They should be defrosted in a glass of water and then poured thru a fine mesh net. Let the fluid drain for about a minute and then feed them off.

it doesn't really matter if you start it in a 5 or 10 gallon tank. As long as it is cycled before fish go in

did you think it sounded like a good idea to add sponge to that 3i little filter?, otherwise when you throw out the biobag, you throw out all the good bacteria with it.
what else would you do? a kid at LFS sd get some lava rock from garden store to grow bacteria on, I picked some up buts it's red and that I'm not sure it will rinse clean, there's also that Biomax stuff, same kid said you really use that til the tank is well established

sweet idea! thanks! been keeping an eye on the fish, and holding off on the meds, that furan 2 is yellow and as it's come out of the water the fish color has changed a bit back to the turquoise but that fin is still thin upon flare, do you think I should go ahead with the meds? and more of the frozen foods. I had been feeding attisons betta pellets and hikari freeze dried blood worms but I've gotten the impression it's not quite the same as the live or frozen(also I always soak the dry food first so trouble with constipation yet)
