I dont know what it is, at first he recieved these same tears but one at a time, and they would heal really fast.

all of a sudden i see multiple tears, not as far down as before but still concerning. I always thought it was odd he kept getting it, i dont see any places where he can tear his fins on and my fish are not agressive. My brothers got 2 plecs in with oscars they get into small fights at times but they are fine.

So i dont know, i dont think its fin rot, just doesnt look like it from the pics i saw. But yeah, id appreciate any help. Im also posting this in the pleco forum or whatever its called.

He has hiding places aswell, such as a cocanut he mainly hides in, and he had another which i removed temporarily. He hides in the first big cocanut most of the time, comes out when i feed em.

If they was split fins I would say they would heal fine on there own in good water quality.
It looks like finrot to me the gaps are to wide.
Can you issolate the fish as you will need to treat with a bacterial med.

Thats the thing, he would heal in a matter of 2 days normally, he just got this recently, about a day or two ago all of a sudden. I guess i can wait a day and see how he progresses...Then isolate him.

His fins splitting isnt anything new but as i said before wasnt as much as this, thanks for the input and fast response.

If it keeps coming back and getting worse sound abit bacterial to me.
Thats if you seen now signs of fish nipping at his fins.

How contagious is fin rot?

And no signs of fish nipping, hes more of a boss in there, ive seen him get into a little scuffle with the rubbernose once but the rubber nose was no match. In general no fighting or anything that i see.
