What other fish do you keep with the Krib? Has the fin been torn by another fish or do you suspect fin rot?

If you are able to isolate the fish and apply some meds, it will probably grow back. I've not had this problem with Kribs, but I have a tiger plec that lost its tail fin, but it has all grown back.

The Kribs will get to be about 4", so it's too small to be kept in a 3 gallon tank. The normal stocking guide is 1" of fish for each gallon. Therefore, you should be looking to move them into a 10 gallon tank, at least.

Just perform a water change. What are the water parameters? What kind of filter are you using?

the nitrite is at 10 (high??) and my ammonia is at .25 (just right??). i'm only keeping 2 kribs (females), and they are young (about 1 inch long), so when they grow i will put them into my soon to be 20 gallon cichlid tank. i have a bio-wheel on it (it came with it). i could put it in a breeder net in the same tank or in my 10 gallon. what meds sould i use? :dunno:

thanks

Due to your high levels of ammonia & nitrITEs, the torn fins maybe due to bacterial infection (Tail and Fin rot). I'm not familiar on the kribs agression on each other, which could be another cause. What you can probably do is to give antibiotics, such as tetracycline.

You mentioned that the tank came with a biowheel, is that the only filter it is using? It's not like a hang on back filter, like a pengium or Emperor 280?

FYI...any level of ammonia or nitrITEs above 0 is high.
