I've noticed Rye's fins getting even more tattered. I tried Bettafix a while ago and had no success with it at all. I also tried cleaning his water 100% every week and putting stress coat and blackwater extract. Now his fins look even more tattered than before. The back fin (I don't know what they are called) is even splitting in the middle now. I'm thinking of fixing the water input tube on the filter because I saw him get his fins in there a few days ago. I just want to know if there's anything else I can do to fix the fin rot. What meds can I use since everything else doesn't seem to be working?
His water stats should be fine because of the water changes every week. He's in a 10 gallon and the current in the filter is not strong. His temp is at 79-80.
So any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could he be dragging his fins on the gravel in the bottom of the tank. I have two guys now that I'm taking the gravel out because they drag their fins or lay on the gravel and it's playing he$$ with their fins. Just a thought.

I thought it was actually all the flaring he did at his reflection on the filter  but he also has black edges which I'm sure now that it's not his natural coloring. His tail seems to be getting shorter and the rest of his fins are looking tattered also.

I went through a rough bout of fin rot with one of my gouramis after he was attacked by three others. The best thing I found for it was Maracyn. I really thought the little guy was going to die, but he made it and his fins are growing back now. :)

Great. I think I'll try that. Just have to get a hospital tank...or I think I can just treat him in the 10 gal. Would that be fine? Other than the spending more money because of all the med that's going in there, I don't think there's anything else wrong with that...I hope.

If he's the only fish in the tank it will be fine just to keep him in his normal home. However, if you have a filter with carbon in it, you will need to take the carbon out. It will pull the meds out of the water.

Yea, he is the only one. The only thing I think I would have to remove would be the carbon filter, right?

I was told when my girls got rot that Melafix/Bettafix does NOT treat fin rot, just promote regrowth. Go get some JFE (Jungle Fungus Clear) tabs. Worked wonders. Use that for 4 days, do a water change (or retreat -- follow package instructions) and THEN use Bettafix. There's obviously something still attacking your poor guy's fins that needs to be stopped.

I though Jungle Fungus clear was only for fungus? I guess I'll go to the store and see what they have....and get him a silk plant because his other plant might be causing a problem also. But I know he does have fin rot because of the jagged fins and black edges.
