Fin Rot

Hi.
I have a betta that I discovered just had the beginning of fin rot, poor lad. I promptly cleaned his water and have treated using Melafix. He eats, he swims, the rot has not progressed. But, I imagine thatt it takes sometime for that cartilidge to repair, so, in the meantime, how do I know it has actually been stopped?

New growth is a good sign that the fin rot is gone....this is characterized by clear additions to the once black tips of the tail. Usually when i see that all the black has fallen from the tail i switch my guys over to bettamax to promote new fin growth.
