Fin Rot?

Fin rot or injured?

I'm really, really hoping it is just injured. I don't know... it doesn't look overly fungusy or rotting to me...

Does not look like tail rot. Looks like an injury that might be getting a secondary infection. The opaque parts on the upper and lower lobe of the tail is what makes me think that. Does it look opaque to you or is it just an artifact of the pic?

Hmm it's a little opaque but mostly transparent.

I would like to separate to keep an eye on him and medicate if necessary. But I also want to keep him in the tank as he will feel more safe in the school, and more stressed thus more susceptible to further problems if I were to separate..

Yeah, I always wrestle with that dilema myself. If it were me, I would keep him in with the rest and just observe for now. See if it starts to look better or if the opaque area spreads.

It's a hard decision to make. He seems to be swimming around happily enough and the other barbs aren't picking on him... so yeah, I'll keep him in unless things get worse. Thanks for the reply... very glad it's not fin rot.
