Hello,

I recently purchased a tank, and just 2 days ago (sunday) some fish, 2 silver marbled molly, 2 red platty, and a plec.

Last night I noticed one of the molly's was sat at the bottom of the tank remaining fairly still. This morning I woke up and he was on his back but still alive. By the time I got home from work he was dead.

While trying to investigate the death I noticed the other molly was only really using one side of his fin, and the side he wasnt using appears to have half of it missing. This fish to me seems stressed as it is constantly swimming up and down the glass in the same spot for hours, likes he's trying to swim through the glass. All the other fish appear to have settled in, enjoying and exploring their new habitat.

Ive done some research on fin rot and if this is fin rot is it possible that fish were purchased like this, or could this have occured in such a small period of time due to poor tank condtions? Are my other fish in danger?

Setup:
30 Litre tank
Setup for 14 days
Water treated with aquasafe and white spot
26oc on the heater, 25oc on the thermometer
Water was never tested

Thanks

Ok its looks like they are all doing that swimming up the glass thing now apart from the plec who seems happy. What should I do?

Cycling tank by the sounds of it.
Immediate water change and increase aeration in the tank.
Read up on the nitrogen cycle.
Why have you added a whitespot med.
What type of plec is it as there not that many that can be kept in a 6 gal tank.
