Fin Rot

how fast does fin rot act?
or could this be just the result of nipping?
my betta has a part of his tail fin which is about 1mm wide and about 10mm in length that is missing?
could that be the result
i put him in the tank about 3 days ago

What size tank does he have? What tankmates are in with him if any?
How long have you had your betta?

hes in a 5 gal with 2 platies
i treated him in a hospital tank for about a week on melafix
when i put him back in it was a day or so before it was worse

then it could be the platies, bettas are better off when kept alone, how big is the hospital tank? think he or the platies need a new perminante home, then with clean water his tail should heal
