I set up a hospital tank, the current stats are as follows.
PH 7.4
Ammonia .25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <5.0
I transfered a sponge from the big tank to this newly purchased hospital tank (10 gallons) to help with the bacterial filtration. The blue guppy in the picture is the main reason I set up the hospital tank. This is day five (supposed to be the last day) of the medication, I am using Tetra Lifeguard All-In-One Treatment. The medicine doesn't appear to be working as his tail has stayed about the same, ragged (I thought fin rot?). The other fish in there were added at the same time with what I diagnosed as mild fin rot. I added them as a preventative measure as I wasn't sure how fast it would spread to all the other fish in my main aquarium.
The tails of the three platy in the hospital tank has gotten slightly worse, but not much of a big difference. The yellow guppy, however, hasn't been so lucky. Most of his tail fin has seem to fall off; I actually witnessed part of it break off just a few minutes ago.
All week they have been in there, and I'm really worried. Now 4 of the 5 are staying right near the top. I do have a bubble wand going to circulate oxygen into the water so I'm really confused.
And yes, I know I need to lower the ammonia asap. Would this be a main reason for them swimming all the way at the top? Can you tell by the pictures if this is really fin rot or are they stressed or what? My first time dealing with a sick fish and I don't really know what to do.
