I bought a couple of sunset platys yesterday and just had a good look at and noticed one of them has a bit of fin rot in her tail and has 2 pin head tiny white spots on her tail & 1 on her fin. The fish seems healthy and is not flicking herself on plants, could the spots have something to do with fin rot? Should I give her a Clove Oil bath just in case its Ich? Please help I don't want to the entire tank with Ich and what more I am upgrading from a 20 gallon to 50 gallon, couldn't of came at a worse time.

Forgot to mention the tank is 3 years old, has regular water chages I can only imagine it was something at Pets at Home end.

Clove oil is an anaesthetic! It wouldn't be any good for whitespot.

If it's fin rot, it'll probably clear up with good water. If it's whitespot you'll soon see all the fish covered in loads of spots; don't panic, whitespot won't kill healthy fish at all quickly. Just use a med from your LFS, as per the instructions.

I was going to use the clove oil to kill the fish before it infects the entire tank.

Don't want to use meds in the tank as it will probably kill of the bacteria on my sponges and upgrading the tank to a 50 gallon on Wednesday, just not a great start to a new tank. Am just hoping its fin rot.

Proper whitespot meds won't harm your filter bacteria.

I will see what happenes over the next few days but just in case can anyone recommend a good Ich medication (not salt) I am based in the UK.

Cheers

The only time I've had to treat whitespot recently, I used eSHa Exit, and had very good results with it.

100% white spot noticed it on alot of my other fish now, only stuff pet store had was Interpet Anti Whitepot hope it does the trick. didn't mention anything about scaless fish on the instructions so put half dose and temperature is now upto 30c and added an air pump for extra oxygen.

Waterlife Protozin is the best for whitespot. I didnt find the Interpet remedies very good.
