hi all, its been a loooong time since i posted on the site.
i have a betta,vt who i bought from PAH (curse me) about 18 months ago. he was already fully grown when i got him and over the last few months has suffered with something that seems to look like chronic fin rot. its eaten away now at his entire top fin and has hardened his tail. despite several courses of treatment and regular water changes, there has been little/no improvement. but, if its true that bettas can sometimes be a year old when they are in the shop, this could make him 2 and a half! today he looks as though its finally got the better of him so im just letting him chill out for a bit. its so upsetting cos he keeps coming to the tank glass and just looking straight at me. :(
he was absolutely stunning in his prime and such an angry betta, he used to terrorise his bristlenose!
he is my baby and i will soon have another little misfit who is a red betta damaged in transit on monday with some kind of spinal problem which causes him to just lay around. apart from when at rest he is totally active but its such an effort for him other wise. he is a stunner also.

thanks for reading my drivel!!!! haha

:good:

i dont mean to be so directly honest but its just the way to say it, he's at a great age, and he will slowly be loosing his high immune system so infections are harder to treat, i would personally just keep up with water changes so that he is comfortable as much as he can be and expect anything to happen, but i hope he pulls thru for you :good:

ah, i know where he is goin. he just seems to have gone really bad today. he is struggling to hold himself up but still eating! god forbid, he would ever stop stuffing his face. he is an old man now, and its gutting, but it happens. god love him! he is my buddy and i always find myself having a chat to him. i never thought before i got him, id get so attached to a fish but i did!!! x

:good: that is the trouble with the blasted fish they wriggle right into your heart and set up home there! I have lost a couple of old boys lately. I just try to keep them really clean and in warm water and hand feed them. They just sort of give up one day...

I don't know if it's worth a mention, if the prob is old age, but I just talked to the API rep about 2 weeks ago, they have new antibiotic that is for both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and because it's new, the fish are resistant to it, if you haven't tried it yet the product is FURAN 2

I sat and cried reading it, oh grrrrr i still am. I hope he pulls through and perks up a bit longer for you (((hugs)))

hey. he is still with me for the moment. keeping him fed and clean .., i think he has nine lives or something. he is definately getting worse but still happy when someone goes to his tank. aww
my new boy is a bit of a fruitcake! it looks as though his fins are too heavy so he parades around for a bit, eats and then just goes and sits down in the corner of his tank.
my first betta (frankie) has sure got me addicted to them... ive never known a fish like it, he still is my buddy and i know he has started my new obsession!
hehe
