I thought my betta had fin rot so I have been treating him with Maracyn 2 for the past 3 days. Yesterday I noticed him bending around like he was trying to get his tail but I couldn't tell if he was actually biting it. I also noticed some blood at the end of the shredded fins. His fins look very shredded. I am not sure if this is fin rot. I would really appreciate some help. I am worried about him.

Looks like finrot too me, but having said that, if you have Seen him trying to bite it then the evidence says otherwise, Try treating him with some Betafix? is he alone in his tank? whats the situation? :) hope hes ok

I only saw him do that once and I wasn't sure what he was doing. He used to be in a one gallon tank and then I realized there was something wrong with him.It looked like part of his fin was falling off. I changed part of the water. By the time I got the bigger tank his fins were really bad and that was only a day or two later. I was trying to figure out what medication to use. I also have another veil tail betta that started getting fin rot but it is just a gradual fraying and doesn't look all shredded like that. I have both of them in the 10 gallon (I am using it as a hospital tank) with a divider up. I thought they both had fin rot so I thought it would be a good way to treat them at the same time. I am going to use it as a permanent home later. Right now it only has places for them to hide. Until a couple of weeks ago I had been overfeeding my bettas. I didn't know this until I talked to someone at the pet store. Now I only feed them once a day. The overfeeding probably caused all these problems and I am just trying to fix it now. Thanks for your help!

Looks like your taking the right action then :) if there both in the same tank though there would be no harm in treating for finrot :)

Pretty much everything you said here is what i would have recomended :good: :good:

Keep us posted on his progress :)

Thanks. :) Do you think I should add some aquarium salt? I heard that 1 tablespoon for 5 gallons is good. For some reason my 10 gallon tank doesn't hold quite 10 gallons. I don't want to add too much salt so I haven't added any. Would it hurt if I added 2 tablespoons or should I add a little less?

Unfortunatly mate i have no experience in Salts. So i wouldnt really want to say :( all i would say is just read the labels and mix it too that :) thats what i would do :)

Salts can help. some people say they dont, but i do think they can help with things like this :) so if you have it id use it. but please be carefull :)

Hi and Welcome.

The 10 gal is certainly much better for them, along with the meds i would do small daily water changes, water changes do wonders for fin re-growth :good:

Very nice chap you got there
